MONTGOMERY — The city’s police arrested a man and charged him with the murder of a Selma resident.
Police issued a warrant for Montgomery resident Sam Crenshaw, 18, Wednesday for the murder of Frank York, 25.
“Through investigation, detectives named a suspect,” Captain Huey Thornton said. “We were able to obtain the warrant through enough probable cause.”
Crenshaw is suspected of shooting York at 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 23 at Chevron No. 10, Court Street.
Authorities found York’s body lying next to a car with a handgun and a large amount of marijuana nearby.
“We believe the victim was shot in a drug deal gone wrong,” Thornton said. “There was some kind of verbal altercation between the two men before the shooting.”
Authorities located Crenshaw at a relative’s residence on the south side of Montgomery, Thornton said.
“Officers received an anonymous tip directing police to the cousin’s home,” he said. “Police apprehended the suspect at 3:25 p.m. Saturday.”
Officers placed Crenshaw in the Montgomery County Jail with no bond.
York’s death marks the 23rd homicide in Montgomery this year, according to police.
The Montgomery teenager now faces a class-a felony. Conviction of capital murder under the Code of Alabama has two forms of punishment — life in prison or death.
