Louis Dixon's bond at $25,000

Former Selma mayoral candidate Louis Dixon returned to jail shortly after a court hearing Thursday afternoon.
District Judge Bob Armstrong reduced Dixon’s bond from $500,000 to $25,000 after the hearing.
“Your behavior, Mr. Dixon, as my daddy used to say, ‘it was trouble looking for a place to happen,” the judge said.
Dixon, 57, faces charges of possessing a weapon without a license and child endangerment, stemming from an incident Tuesday night on Broad Street outside the headquarters of a rival candidate for mayor.
Initially, Dixon had a bond of $2,000 cash only. However, the district attorney’s office raised the bond to $500,000 — a price way out of line, according to Dixon’s attorney, Billy Faile.
Officers said they recovered several weapons after pulling over a maroon van driven by Dixon on Tuesday after the polls closed for the municipal election.
Witnesses said Dixon, Felicia Owens Dixon, Claude Hester, William Hopkins and a 5-year-old child were in the van that pulled in front of the campaign headquarters of incumbent Mayor James Perkins Jr.
Words apparently were exchanged. At least one person reported to police that shots were fired.
However, police officers responding to the scene never had any evidence of gunfire. The Dixons denied firing any shots. At least two witnesses said no shots were fired.
Several minutes after responding to the disturbance call, officers pulled over the maroon van at Selma and Washington avenues.
Officers found a loaded handgun within arms reach of Louis Dixon and another loaded handgun under a cushion on a trailer. Officers also recovered an unloaded assault rifle and unloaded 12-gauge shotgun from the van.
Both Louis and Felicia Dixon had expired permits to carry weapons, according to testimony at the hearing.
The Dixons also face burglary charges in Dallas County. Felicia Owens Dixon’s bond was revoked on that charge, and she went to jail after the hearing.
Additionally, in Montgomery, the Dixons face another criminal charge. Authorities there have accused the couple of asking a police officer posing as a prostitute to come to Selma with them.
The Dixons have said they are innocent of all charges.

I'm not the biggest fan of the DA but he may have been correct in setting a high bond for Mr.Dixon, and a mental evaluation wouldn't hurt either.He and his wife are indeed trouble looking for a place to happen.

You & the Dixon's are why everyone is afraid to go out at night in this town. Nobody in their sane mind should agree with anything that the Dixon's did that night. A REAL Man doesn't need a gun!!!!! I am not anti-gun by no means but what happened around that child was insane and to think that waving a gun on a public street is going to "prove a point" is insane. The Dixon's need to be put away for a long time...this would be a good start to getting our streets back.....OK Mayor lets make an example out of them and get the word out that this behavior WILL NOT be tolerated!!!

I actually agree with starman,pari1220.There is a grain of truth to what they say...at least about Perkins. Remember Perk gotta go? :) That being said,they are in need of some serious psychiatric help though.

The Dixons were used by others. When they became a liability, ( arrested in Montgomery) efforts was instituted to distance themselves from the Dixons. Unfortunately sometimes when you start a fire it is not so easy to put it out. It is unfortunate that the Dixons allowed themselves to be used, any one in their right mind would not have been placed in that type of position. It has been evident from the start, after the continuous calls from the Dixons to View Point, that something was terribly wrong with their ability to rationalize, make good judgement and to reason. They were given a platform to spew hate, and discourse and when that platform was limited they took it to the streets, where they met the law.

Right before being arrested Mrs. Dixon was bragging about the $300,000.00 she was given to make a complete fool of herself during the campaign. I hope that money will be enough to get her out of her legal troubles. I would bet $5,000.00 that Randy Williams has not checked on his buddies.

I don't know about any conspiracies to use them,or payments for them to make fools of themselves...which they seem to do very well on their own.I listen to Viewpoint from time to time,and I agree--Selma--that they were given a platform to spew their venom towards Perkins or any one else they perceived as being their enemy.Instead of giving them an avenue to make a mockery of themselves Mr.Williams should have offered them help.

I promise you , NO ONE gave the Dixons any money for anything Political. I see where this conversation is going. The newly elected Mayor, newly elected council members...or anyone else affiliated with his race ran absolutely INDEPENDENT from anything the Dixons did. NO ONE in their right mind would hold an affiliation with them during a crucial election like this. Get real. This is simply jealous, irrational mumbling from the losers in election 2008.

For everyone trying to pin the Dixons psycho babble tactics on Randy Williams, the guy was being as objective and neutral as one could in a time like this. The Dixons paid for their Radio Spots...and they ran. That's business. Whether people want to admit it, Louis Dixon WAS a candidate....and had the right to equal airtime. They just chose to spew garbage instead of using any kind of intelligent moves. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS AS TAKING UP FOR WHAT THE DIXONS DID. I AM VERY MUCH AGAINST THEIR TACTICS. I am only saying they paid for the ads....and stated their stance for the election...eventhough it was way off key. Randy Wiiliams is to not be held accountable for what the Dixons say with there air time. Ask me, theres no difference in J.L talking about WHite people all day or Perkins talking half cocked lies on 105.3

Yes,they paid for their advertisements eyeonyou but Randy could have barred them from making calls to his show.I like Mr.Williams' show but he could've made a better judgement in allowing these two on his phone lines to spew their vitriol.

Felicia Owens Dixon made it public on View Point on more than one occassion that she has Bi-polar Mental illness. I agree that she should not have been allowed to call the show as much as she did, but the phone lines are open to the public. Randy Williams had to use much restraint at times with the Dixon's. Yes they both need psychiatric help, but it is their families job to encourage that, not Randy's. Also I agree that much of what they spoke was the truth, Perk did need to go, and he is gone.

That's fair. I guess Randy was trying to be as fair as possible despite their antics. I would have personally cut their calls a lot shorter. But on the other hand, some of the other delusional callers on the show I would cut off in mid sentence as well. It is really scary some of the garbage these people believe around here.

pari1210 , did I say that I agreed with what they did ? Can you read ? Please don't be so hasty , I did agree with some of the things they said , Perk got'ta go , and he's gone ! I'm not really concerned about the night , it's the daytime that bothers me the most , that seems to be when were most vulnerable to theft .

MY HUSBAND & MYSELF PRAY FOR THEM EVERY DAY AND NIGHT. I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH FELICIA OWENS DIXON & SHE TOOK UP FOR ME WHEN I WOULDN'T DO SO FOR MYSELF, NOW I AM STANDING TALL FOR HER. THE DIXONS, BELIEVE IN ME WHEN I DIDN'T BELIEVE IN MYSELF AND I COULD OPEN UP TO THEM & THEY NEVER PUT ME DOWN WHEN OTHER'S DO & HAVE. I a lso think this is a retaliation because of the losss Mayor Perkins suffered because the newspaper stated everything that they did but it does not at one point tell you what happen before the cops pulled them over.According to sworn testimony Mr.Louis Dixon was slapped and beaten by people of the Perkin's Campaign.I was in court with them and I was an eyewitness on the night that this happen. I also went to the mayor at city hall after he had loss and asked him was anyone shooting and he said no in front of the Channel Twelve News reporter.I knew there was an altercation on Broad at his headquaters because I was watching from a distance but he said nothing happen and I knew that Mr.& Mrs.Owens-Dixon did not start this altercation but he did not tell on his workers that hit Mr.Dixon in the face.I think that the God-faering Man needs to come forward and tell what his people did to the Dixons, but we know that is not going to happen.I have a question to ask everyone that reads this if 50 people came and surrounded your car or vehicle and you got out of the vehicle because your wife or husband was on the back being attacked and you knew you had a gun permit how many of you would have gotten your gun and in the process of getting your gun two people slapped you in the face how many of you would just let it happen. I believe that all of those people that worked for the Perkin's campaign needs to be summoned to court and I also think that the officers that told a lie under oath should be charged and fired from their job as a police officer and go home just like Perk.Mr.&Mrs. Dixon are innocent of this crime so tell me how is it that they are still in jail. I am looking for some people to help support the Dixons and help get them out of jail because they did nothing wrong. I am not looking for people to raise money for them just your suppoort in doing the right thing.
