Officers with the Selma Police Department arrested Selma mayoral candidate Lewis Dixon, Selma City Council Ward 3 candidate Felicia Owens, Claude Hester and William Hopkins on Tuesday night after the polls closed for the municipal elections.
Police charged the four suspects with not having a license to carry weapons. Dixon and Owens received an additional charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
The charges stemmed from an incident where Owens allegedly verbally harassed a crowd at the James Perkins Jr. campaign headquarters.
“This was just one of the numerous complaints involving Dixon and Owens,” Sgt. Scott Swanson said.
A call came in at 7:50 p.m. to police that after the verbal altercation guns were drawn on the crowd.
“There is a rumor that there was gun fire,” Swanson said. “It has not been proven at this time.”
Police responded to the call and made contact with Dixon at Selma and Washington avenues.
“We found two .380 cal semi-automatic pistols, a 12 gauge pump shotgun and an AR-15 assault rifle,” Swanson said. “The assault rifle is the same kind police carry in their car.”
Police found three of the weapons in the van.
“The pistol was found stuffed under a cushion in the couch on the trailer,” Swanson said.
Police found a 5-year-old in the van.
“We are not sure of the relationship of the child to any of the four suspects,” Swanson said. “DHR was notified and the case was turned over to them.”
Police booked Dixon and Owens into the Dallas County Jail under two $1,000 cash only bonds.
Hester and Hopkins were placed in the county jail under $1,000 cash only bond.
All four suspects remain behind bars.

Hello to all readers out there I think that all of you that responded negative about Mr.and Mrs. Owens are totally wrong because I know them very well.I have seen a great change even in both of their lives. I was in court with them on Thursday and all of the accusations that was made agaianst them were false now you tell me why are they still in jail if everything was false and I have proof.Another thing is the police were called for a disturbance call about people fighting so why didn't none of Perkins's Campaign people go to jail also according to testimony from a reknown person. And I am looking foward to working with them to get them filled with the Holy Ghost. So as I go I am going to leave on this note the word of God says Judge not that ye be not judged and All that is without sin cast the first stone so you all need to put your rocks away.To all of life's situations the word of God is the answer and most of you probably need to start reading.

I hope the Lord Jesus Christ forgive's you for talking about THE DIXON'S like that. If you still feel like you have or need to slander THE DIXON'S please get out your bible and read Matthew 5:11,12, 1 Peter4:14, Psalm 57:3, Isaiah 51:7, psalm 31:20 Psalm 37:6, Job 5:21.. I KNOW IN MY HEART THAT POLITICAL JUSTICE WILL SHINE ON FELICIA & LOUIS BECAUSE, THEY ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE GREAT JESUS CHRIST & THEY BELIEVE IN THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH, & NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH SO HELP YOU GOD. So please stop talking bad about my dear & wonderful friend's because, you are only hurting yourselves & not us. Thank you
