Two Selma businesses have been nominated by the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce to receive Small Business Awards.

Frames N’ Things and Dave’s Market are two of 45 finalists that have been announced for the Small Business Awards of Alabama, which is hosted by the Partnership of the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and the Business Council of Alabama.

The awards will be announced on Dec. 1 at the Herbert Center in Birmingham at the partnership’s annual meeting and luncheon.

The two Selma businesses were nominated by Sheryl Smedley, executive director of the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce. Smedley said she nominated them for their contributions to the community and years of service. Both businesses have become staples in the community with a total of over 30 years of service.

“We’re all about promoting and advocating for businesses and letting the public know that Selma is open for business,” Smedley said.

Frame N’ Things, which was nominated for the 1-10 employee category nominee, has been in business for over 29 years.

Store owner Kay Traylor attributes the long running success of the store to great customer service and consistency in quality product. The store specializes in customized frames and also offers an array of gifting items.

“I’m humbled and it’s truly an honor,” Traylor said. “Sheryl Smedley is a believer in me. This shop is my sanity. I love what I do.”

Dave’s Market is no stranger to receiving awards. Just last month Dave’s Market was named 2017 Bronze Retailer of the Year by the Alabama Retailer’s Association.
