Fallen wire causes power outages

A fallen wire left approximately 610 Alabama Power customers in Selma without power for a few hours Thursday afternoon.
Power went out around 4 p.m. and was restored around 5:30 p.m.
Several stoplights were out, including several on Broad Street and at least one on Water Avenue.
Alabama spokesman Mike Jordan said the outage was due to a fallen wire.
“Work is ongoing to restore power and should be resolved within the hour,” Jordan wrote at 5 p.m.
By law, drivers are supposed to treat stoplights as a four-way stop during a power outage, but many seemed confused, or just kept driving through lights.
Officers and traffic guards with the Selma Police Department helped by guiding traffic.
