“We are so excited,” Pate said. “All of the workshops have been extremely well attended because Kellie is so much fun to be with and the way she presents her information is phenomenal.”

Newsome is an artist out of Montgomery. She received her fine arts degree from Troy University.

According to her website, her work has been exhibited in galleries, festivals, universities, magazines and more, and she has received numerous awards from local and regional shows. Most recently, Newsome was awarded the title of Alabama Artist of the Year by the nationally distributed Twin Cities TOSCA arts publication.

“To have someone at her caliber is wonderful for Selma, and especially at this price,” Pate said.

“It’s an opportunity that usually does not come to a town of this size, although we do get some really good artists to come.”

Pat said Newsome has a unique way of teaching and she welcomes artists of all skill levels to the workshop.

“She really gets into it and she’s willing to share all of the knowledge that she has,” Pate said.

“We accept anybody from any skill level from beginners on up, because she can teach everyone.”

The class will be held at the Selma Art Guild (508 Selma Ave.) on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost is $125 and includes everything except paint brushes. Lunch is also provided.
