Isabella scored six touchdowns in the first quarter and put Thursday night’s game against Ellwood Christian away quickly.

The Mustangs (8-1) led 42-0 after one quarter and topped the Eagles 61-0 at Memorial Stadium. Isabella’s Jaqarise Stacy ran the opening kickoff back 75 yards to set the tempo for the night.

It didn’t get any better for Ellwood (0-9) from there.

The Eagles fumbled the next kickoff and Isabella recovered to get the ball at the Ellwood 18. Austin Brasher scored on the next play, an 18 yard rush around left end, and made the score 14-0 only 32 seconds into the game.

“I had about five seventh and eighth graders out there tonight,” said Ellwood coach Mike Stokes. “But they are growing. We are going to be alright. We’ve just got to grow up and play.”

On the second play of the next drive, Ellwood Christian quarterback A.D. Tate had the ball stripped out of his arms and Isabella recovered. The Mustangs scored two plays later on an 11-yard rush by James Patterson.

Isabella added three more touchdowns in the first quarter — a 14-yard reception by Travis Atchison, an 11-yard interception return by Brasher and a 45-yard catch by Jarred Campbell.

Isabella scored twice in the first minute and a half of the second quarter. Brasher had for a 9-yard rushing touchdown and Jarred Campbell had a 3-yard rushing score.

The final score of the first half was a 44-yard rushing touchdown by Jarrett Baker and put the Mustangs up 61-0.

The second half was shortened to four minute quarters.

The loss added on to a long week for Ellwood. The Eagles had to forfeit their two wins on Tuesday after the AHSAA announced the school had played an ineligible player this season.

Stokes said that decision might’ve played a part in how the team approached Thursday’s game, but said that was no excuse.

“It’s not about one guy. It’s about a whole team,” Stokes said. “We needed him tonight but still again we’ve got him for another years so it’ll be alright.”

The Eagles will play at Southside next week on Thursday night.
