The Morgan Academy Senators boys and girls tennis teams finally met their match when the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights came to town Monday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Senators, the Knights were too much to handle.

The Morgan girls won two matches, but dropped four out of five singles matches to drop to Tuscaloosa Monday at the city tennis courts. The Senators struggled even more on the boys’ side, where no match fell Morgan’s way.

Ellie Adams started the day strong in singles for the girls, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Morgan’s No. 1 doubles team of Emily Sherrer and Sophie Talton also had an impressive showing, overcoming a 6-4 first-set loss to take the final two sets 6-2, 6-2.

The pair didn’t have the same luck in singles. Sherrer lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Talton fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. The final two singles matches on the girls’ side proved to be more of the same, as Annie Talton lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Mary Ashlyn Pearce fell 6-2, 6-3.

Adams and Annie’s No. 2 doubles match went unfinished.

On the boys’ side, Willis Watt Jones struggled in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, where George Jones was his partner. Willis Watt lost 6-0, 6-0 in both matches. George’s No. 2 singles match went unfinished, as did Mason Perkins’ No. 2 singles match.

Perkins and Will Brackin put up four games on their No. 2 doubles opponent in the first set, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2. Brackin also lost his No. 4 singles match by a tally of 6-2, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Kareem Hammad made it a contest in the second set, but ultimately dropped 6-0, 6-4.

Belal Hammad took his match to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, but he ended up with a loss as well, falling 1-6, 6-3, 8-10.

At No. 8 singles Jacob Hughey lost 8-6.

The lone boys to win their matches for Morgan were Byron Jones at No. 7 singles, who won 8-4, and No. 9 singles player Cameron Bohannon, who won his match 8-2.
