When the Concordia College Alabama men’s basketball season ended on March 5, Jamie Washington’s college basketball career ended too.

He’s not ready to give up basketball just yet.

“I talked to each teammate individually, and it would mean a lot to them for them to see me at the next level,” Washington said.

Both Washington and Kendrick Atwood, senior guards at Concordia, are hoping for a chance to play professionally. Concordia head coach Fredrick Summers said multiple sports firms have reached out to him in hopes of connecting with Washington and Atwood.

Washington said he looks forward to the process of finding a spot for him to continue to play basketball, whether that be in the NBA’s D-league, or in a professional league overseas.

“I definitely see those guys having a very long career over in Europe,” Summers said.

Summers said both players will have to get used to being more of a facilitator at the professional level, wherever they end up. He said a player like Washington, who finished as the runner-up in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association player of the year voting with 18.7 points a game, nine assists and eight rebounds, won’t be relied on for as much of the scoring on a professional team.

Washington said wherever he ends up, he’s just excited about getting paid to do what he loves.

“It’s going to be a long journey, but I’m willing to put the work in and do whatever it takes to get to the next level to play professional basketball,” Washington said. “It’s in my hands.”
