Due to the threat of inclement weather Tuesday night, the Dallas County-Southside basketball games were postponed until Wednesday.

Storms were expected to impact the area Tuesday evening, with the National Weather Service in Birmingham listing Dallas County among many with an elevated risk for tornadoes and damaging winds up to 60 m.p.h.

“It’s a rival game and we didn’t want to put our fans and their fans in harm’s way trying to come to a ball game,” said Dallas County coach Willie Moore.

Moore said the schools also considered the drive game officials would have to make in the weather.

The game was moved until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, which is when the junior varsity game will start.

The final game of the night will feature the varsity boys’ teams from both schools and will be a matchup of up-and-coming teams. Both the Panthers and Hornets have recovered after rocky starts to the year.

“Both teams are playing extremely well at this point of the season,” said Southside coach Cedric Brown. “We are coming in on a five game win streak.”

Southside won the first boys meeting of the year 68-39, but had to make a last second basket to beat the Hornets 42-40 in December.

The Southside girls have also won both of their meetings with Dallas County.

Tuesday night’s game isn’t the only schedule change for the Hornets.

Dallas County’s game with Ellwood Christian was also moved from Thursday night to Friday night.
