Dallas County boys, Meadowview girls beat opponents

Henry Baker led Dallas County with 16 points as the Hornets defeated the A.L. Johnson Eagles 56-49 Saturday at Wallace Community College Selma.

Dallas County had three players reach double figures, as Joshua Benford and Kareem Ross joined Baker in that category with 12 and 11, respectively.

Timothy Baker made three 3-pointers.

Ross hit six first-quarter points to give Dallas County a 19-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. A.L. Johnson was never able to recover. The Hornets led 34-20 at halftime at 51-29 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Hornets win coin flip

The Dallas County boys’ team won a coin flip to determine its position in the area tournament. The Hornets will be the No. 3 seed in their area tournament and will face No. 2 seed Wilcox Central in the first round.

 

Meadowview 57, Brooklane 26 (girls)

Meadowview beat Brooklane on the road 57-26 Monday. Mallory Freine scored 25 points and Tayler Roberts posted 17 points. Christina Dabit added eight points.
