Going to a high school basketball game can be expensive for families. Over the next few weeks, the Dallas County School System is trying to offset that cost by holding a family night game at each of its three high schools.

All three schools are holding family night for important area games, which will help decide which teams host area tournaments when postseason play begins.

“We know it gets expensive for families to attend basketball games, and this makes it an affordable option,” said Dallas County Superintendent Don Willingham.

Keith will kickoff the family night on Friday against Isabella with a two-for-one deal. Tickets will be $6, but they’ll essentially be buy one, get one free.

The Bears are also letting all western zone students that have all As in for free that night.

“Bring a friend, bring a cousin, bring a grandma,” said Keith athletic director Tommy Tisdale. “We want to recognize our A-students while also giving the fans a chance to enjoy family night and Keith basketball.”

Southside will host the next family night game against Clarke County on Jan. 19. The Panthers are letting everyone in for $3 a ticket.

“It’s something for the families to just give back to support the guys. I’m excited about it,” said Southside coach Cedric Brown.

“I’m expecting the fans to come out that night in large numbers.”

Dallas County will host Demopolis in the Hornets’ family night on Jan. 21. Like Southside, Dallas County will let everyone in for $3.

“It gives our fans a chance to bring out more family members to see us play and help support us,” said Dallas County head coach Willie Moore.

Each school is sending out flyers to its feeder schools, inviting them out for their family nights.
