Basketball roundup: Selma girls win big again

The Selma Saints (17-2) continued their impressive start to the season Saturday in a 57-30 victory over Francis Marion.

Areyana Williams led the way for Selma with 13 points and Jamya Smith had 10 points. Charmekia Moore had six points for the Saints.

Selma led 31-15 at the half and coasted the rest of the way.

The Saints will host Paul Bryant Tuesday in a class 6A, area 6 game.

 

Francis Marion 66, Selma 46 (Boys)

Down three players to injury, Selma struggled to keep up with Francis Marion Saturday in a 66-46 loss.

Kentravious White scored 19 points and was the only Selma player in double figures. Ivan Williams scored seven points, Fredriquez Eaton scored six and Kevin Jones hustled for 10 rebounds.

 

Morgan 44, Marengo 29 (Girls)

The Morgan Academy Senators (4-7) defeated Marengo Academy 44-29 Saturday in their final game of the Morgan Pepsi Classic.

The Senators were led in scoring by Emily Sherrer, who had 16 points Regan Hewitt was also in double digits with 14 points.

Morgan will host Lowndes Academy Tuesday.

 

Marengo 57, Morgan 55 (Boys)

Morgan Academy rallied from 18 points down in the fourth quarter, but came up a little short Saturday in a 57-55 loss to Marengo Academy.

Woodham Kemmer and Sawyer Hopkins scored 16 points apiece to lead the Senators and Jackson Henderson chipped in another 12 points and six rebounds. Marengo’s Hayden Huckabee led all scorers with 28 points.

The game was the final boys contest of the Morgan Pepsi Classic.
