Owners of Valley Grande Mexican Grill were joined with other volunteers in feeding more than 150 residents, staff workers and administration at the Light House Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Christmas Eve.

Activity Director Daisy Dixon said she was happy to see people of the community reaching out to the residents of the home and making them feel loved during Christmas.

“I am so excited,” Dixon said. “It is so great to have them here. When they come into our facility it says something great for them, as well as our facility. It shows that they care. It is awesome.”

Owners of Valley Grande Mexican Grill Sergio and Miguel Sanchez are two brothers who value community service.

Sergio said that he got everything that he needed from the smiles that he saw across the faces of the residents.

“When it comes to this season we usually forget about our elders, and we get so wrapped up in trying to receive that we forget the good thing about giving.”

Sergio said that in addition to feeding residents for the past two years, they have also given sweaters, pants, shoes and other gifts.

This year, they gave every resident of Light House fleece blankets as Christmas gifts.

Jana Russell Garner, candidate for Circuit Judge, said making others happy during the holidays is important to her family

“These are people who throughout their lives have given so much to our community. Now, they’re here and not able to get out and about in the community like they have in the past. So, it’s important for the community to come to them,” Garner said.

Bettie Davis, 80, said she thoroughly enjoyed what the Sanchez brothers and other volunteers had done for her and the other residents.

“I had fun. Everything was nice,” Davis said, adding he hopes the grill will come back again next year.
