Judith Parks “Judy” Royal

Judith Parks “Judy” Royal passed away peacefully on Nov. 10, 2015, in Birmingham.

Judy was born April 25, 1947, in Miami, Florida.

She attended Coral Gables High School and Mercer University, and earned her masters degree in education from Livingston University.

Judy was a lifelong elementary school teacher, devoted to her profession and to her students.

She taught at Edgewood Elementary (second and then third grade) in Selma in the 1980s. She touched many lives over the course of her career, not only by teaching but also by her unmatched generosity.

Judy’s love language was giving, and she always made sure that the people around her had what they needed when they needed it. Whether it be her family, her students, her friends or neighbors, Judy was always ready to give what she could.

Judy was a congregant at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover and before that, at First Baptist Church in Selma. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Kirkwood F. and Grace W. Parks of Coral Gables, Florida.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, William A. “Bill” Royal of Birmingham; sister, Deanna P. Hackworth (John) of Evergreen, Colorado; sons, William A. Royal (Michael) and Douglas C. Royal (Laura) of Birmingham and Michael P. Royal (Annah) of Nolensville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Raines, Tyson, Sydney and Rollins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
