There’s a lot to be thankful for this year

The point of Thanksgiving Day isn’t to chow down on turkey and stuffing, catch the Lions or Cowboys game on TV or race out the door to try to score a deal on Black Friday. It’s actually about none of those things, although it’s often difficult to keep it all in perspective with so much going on around the holiday.

On this Thanksgiving, we encourage everyone to take a few extra minutes to reflect on all of the positives in our lives — from family to those special friends that always seem to be there in times of need.

While we’re spending time with family today, we should also take time to think about those who aren’t as fortunate. Many aren’t as lucky and may not have a family or a meal today.

Most of us will be off work, but first responders like police officers and firefighters will still be patrolling the streets. We’re thankful for the job they do.

We’re also thankful for our digital and print subscribers, who trust us to report fair and unbiased news.  Although our readers may not always agree with some of the things we write, we are thankful when they share their opinions that make us stronger as a staff. We’re thankful for our advertisers that trust us to spread their message throughout the community.

We’re thankful for all of the visitors that have made their way into our city during this historic year.

There’s a lot of things to be thankful about today. Let us be the first to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving.
