The Selma Saints fought back from two losses earlier in the week to defeat their opponent in five sets Thursday.

Selma (6-11) defeated Billingsley (6-12) Thursday at home, fighting back after losing the first and third sets of the match. Head coach Melissa White said the team’s passing, setting and hitting was much more controlled than it had been earlier in the week.

“Our ball control was much better today than it had been pretty much all week and we were able to get our setter the ball,” White said.

White said the Saints got their intensity back, defeating class 1A Billingsley in a matchup of two teams with similar records.

White said Ja’Qwasha Hampton came in and played extremely well for Selma. White also said Cipriana Carter stepped up and contributed to the win.

“She got some serves down for us, which was good,” White said.

Selma hosts Autaugaville and Maplesville in a tri-match Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. White is excited about what this win means for the Saints moving forward as the season draws to a close.

“It means a lot. That’s a win under our belt. We needed that win,” White said
