A week after giving up 50 points, the Pee Wee Bobcats’ defense shut out its opponent.

Keishawn Rowser led all players with two touchdowns as the Bobcats (1-1) defeated the Pee Wee Seahawks (0-3) 22-0 Monday in a 7-8 year-old game. Rowser made plenty of tackles on defense and broke through for a couple big runs to make the game a one-sided affair.

Rowser scored a 65-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter to give the Bobcats a 6-0 lead. He then made a tackle on defense to force a turnover on downs. In the final play of the half, Rowser broke through for a 55-yard touchdown run.

The Bobcats’ Laderius Walker ran in the final touchdown of the game on a 32-yarder with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Bobcats’ defense made a stop late in the game to force another turnover on downs and put the game away.

“I was thinking if we scored 25 or 30 points we would win, but it doesn’t work like that. Defense wins championships,” said Bobcats’ head coach Fredrick Owens.

The coaches for the Seahawks said this is the first time many players on their team are playing football and they expect their team to improve as the season goes along. Co-head coach Charles Lumpkin said he wasn’t expecting this strong of a defensive effort from a team that let up 50 points a week prior.

“We saw a defense that we normally haven’t seen, but we’ll make the adjustment tomorrow and we’ll be successful against the future opponents,” Lumpkin said.

While the Bobcats’ defense was able to stifle its opponent, the Seahawks’ JaDarious Jones, Tyler Muse and William Jackson all had rushes of five or more yards.

“They did good,” said Seahawks’ co-head coach H.L. Blackburn. “This is their first year and they’re going to be okay.”

The Bobcats face the Packers Monday. The Seahawks have a week off and their next game is against the Bengals on Oct. 19.
