Southside bests winless Wilcox-Central

Southside (2-5) won its first game since August in a 42-8 road victory over Wilcox (0-5).

“We were tired of losing,” Southside head coach Daniel Flowers said. “They came out and they competed really hard.”

Khamari Gibbs led the way for Southside with six total touchdowns. He had 315 yards passing and four touchdowns and 117 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

De’Quan Johnson led receivers with 115 receiving yards and a touchdown. KeAndre Rutledge added 111 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Gerquialius Fails had two receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. Chris Edwards carried the ball eight times for 66 yards.

The win against Wilcox marks the end of a four-game road stretch for the Panthers.

Southside has a bye next week and then returns home for the first time since Aug. 29 on Oct. 9 to face UMS-Wright.
