Coming off a one win season, Concordia College Alabama has high hopes entering its 2015 campaign. Head football coach Stanley Conner believes his team is much improved after a successful year of recruiting and several key returnees back in the fold.

The Hornets open year two of Conner’s tenure Saturday at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida at 11 a.m. Saturday with plenty to prove.

“We are going to try to keep it simple and in terms of talent see what we have,” Conner said.

“I’m very excited to see what we have in general.”

Conner said he expects the Hornets to be much improved by their third game of the season. The first two weeks he’s planning to see a lot of the team’s younger players, which include 48 freshman.

Quarterbacks Jarvis Chambers, a junior, and freshman James Crosby will share snaps at quarterback Saturday.

“I haven’t really made up my mind. I may go with Chambers and I may go with Crosby, but both quarterbacks will definitely play,” Conner said.

The programs have a history, albeit a short one.

Warner won the program’s first ever football game at Selma’s Memorial Stadium in 2013 in a 13-7 defensive struggle. The Hornets also lost to Warner 17-12 last season.

“You really don’t know what to expect,” Conner said.

“You just have to go into the game with the basics and hopefully your kids can respond to what kind of adjustments you have to make.”
