Registration for the city’s youth kickball league will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Selma High School softball field.

Venecia Eaton, the city’s youth and senior coordinator, said she’s hoping over 100 children will show up Saturday, so that she can divide players into teams and get the kickball season going.

She said Saturday will be a day for the children to get to know one another and have fun.

“We are just trying to get the kids out there just to get the ones who didn’t know about it to come out and place them on a team,” Eaton said. “[Saturday] is just a trial. We are just going to be playing and having fun.”

The cost to play is free and the league is for children 7-19 year-old.

Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at Selma High’s softball field, so Eaton said even kids playing other sports will be able to play.

She’d like each team to have around 15 players.

Eaton said she’s still looking for volunteer coaches and for sponsors. She said only Mayor George Evans and herself have sponsored a team so far, which will only cost around $80.

She said sponsors are asked to purchase each team’s T-shirts, which is the only part of a uniform they’ll be required to wear.

She said she will need at least four more sponsors and possibly more, depending on how many players register to take part in the league.

Eaton said any coaches that would like to help out with the league should come to Saturday’s registration or call her at 874-2105.
