The United States Army, in partnership with the community of Selma, will provide free health care to Selma residents in need.

From Aug. 4-14, military personnel will set up shop to provide 10 days of medical care to Selma residents. The health care station will open at 8 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. All citizens are welcome to come out.

The following areas will be covered: screening for diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, STDs and referrals; diagnoses for asthma, COPD, diabetes, high blood pressure and infections; behavioral health screenings (with possible VA outreach follow-up for veterans).

The following dental areas will be covered: dental exam, extractions, simple fillings and dental care education.

The following areas related to optometry will be covered: vision exam and single vision test. Single vision lens eye glasses will be made on site.

Selma Mayor George Evans feels that everyone should come out to the free event, no matter their health care situation.

“It’s a great thing for people who can afford it or not, poor or not, insurance or not. No one will be turned away. At the end of the day, all they have to do is give their name and state their issue,” Evan said.

Registration will be available at the George P. Evans building on 2 Lawrence Street. Citizens will be assisted on a first come first served basis. Volunteers are also needed.
