Reliable Cadillac GMC service consultant Eric Kelly was surprised when he walked into work Friday,and was presented the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Rising Star Award.

“It was shocking,” he said. “It feels pretty good. I didn’t expect it at all.”

The award recognizes citizens who make a difference in the community and at work. The award has been around for about two years.

For about 17 years, Kelly has been advising a diverse group of customers on service for their cars. He said he loves the customers and the environment he works in.

Apparently the customers love him as well because nominations for the award were sent to the chamber of commerce on his behalf. Executive director of the Chamber of Commerce Sheryl Smedley said people had only things to say about Kelly’s hard work and diligence .

“They just complimented him so well,” she said. “He’s always cheerful. He’s very attentive to what customers’ needs are. He also makes sure when they come back they receive quality service.”

More than 100 customers come through the business a week, and Kelly handles each one with care, said Reliable Cadillac GMC Owner Bill Porter.

“He tries to make sure they’re 100 percent satisfied,” said Porter. “He always has a smile on his face. He is great, hardworking, loyal and great with customers. The customers love him.”

Treating people with respect is what probably helped Kelly become a winner. He said he tries to treat everyone equally.

Kelly said he’s honored to receive such an award for his service.

When he gets home from work, Kelly said he has a special place for the framed certificate.

“I’m going to make sure my wife hangs it up. We might take one of her pictures down and put it in the place of that,” he joked.
