Meadowview Christian didn’t get the win it wanted Thursday against New Life Christian, but the Trojans will still host a softball sub-state contest next week.

New Life Christian defeated Meadowview 16-9 Thursday in an Alabama Christian Athletic Association region B tiebreaker game to earn a No. 1 seed.

“We weren’t hitting the ball as well and we made a lot of mental errors — just silly mistakes that shouldn’t be made,” said Meadowview coach Cherie Grimes.

Meadowview actually scored the game’s first five runs, only to watch New Life come storming back in the second inning. Despite the loss, everything Meadowview hopes to accomplish is in front of the Trojans. Plus, the team’s journey through the postseason will start at home. Meadowview will play either Cahawba Christian or Trinity Tuesday at 4 p.m.

“I think we can win it all,” Grimes said. “They have the talent to win it all, it just takes putting everything together. I’m proud of how far they’ve come. They’ve come a long way just in working together as a team, but we’ve got to stop making mental errors and really focus.”

The ACAA state tournament is scheduled for May 8-9 at New Life Christian Academy.
