KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Following a week in which she set the career record for strikeouts, won four games and did not allow a run, Auburn Montgomery senior Cassie Jones was named the NAIA National Softball Pitcher of the Week on April 14.

Jones set the career strikeout record in a 17-strikeout performance against Brenau, eclipsing the previous record held by four-time All-American Brandi Richards. Jones bettered the previous mark of 880 career punch outs, and now holds the season record (276 in 2013) and game record (19 against Spring Hill on May 24, 2013) for strikeouts, as well as the AUM career record for victories with 77. To date, she has recorded 911 strikeouts.

In her first outing of the week, she struck out 13 and allowed just two against Brewton-Parker, before picking up a relief win in game two with two shutouts innings.

She struck out four of the six batters she retired.

Jones entered the opener against Brenau nine K’s shy of Richards’ record, and reached the milestone with a fourth-inning strikeout of Mason Garland. In all, Jones struck out 17 hitters, a mark which tied for the third most in a game in the program’s history.

She retired the side via punch out in five of seven innings. In game two against the Golden Tigers, she threw three no-hit innings, striking out five to pick up the save in the AUM sweep.

Her final outing of the week was a two-hit shutout of Middle Georgia, in which she struck out 18 hitters and notched her second four-strikeout inning of the season. The 18 stiekouts in the game, mark the second-highest total in a game in the program’s history.

On the season, Jones sports a 21-3 record with a 1.08 ERA. She has struck out 245 hitters in 136 1/3 innings and allowed opponents to hit just .114.

She has tallied nine shutouts and three saves.

Jones currently leads the NAIA in wins, opponent batting average and strikeouts.

She is second nationally in hits allowed per game (2.67) and strikeouts per game (12.58), while ranking third in ERA. She also leads the SSAC in innings pitched and is second in saves.
