The class will allow individuals to create abstract paintings and receive one-on-one assistance from Newsome.

A fee of $95 is due the day of the workshop. A light lunch and snack will be provided.

The class will hold up to 10 students. Participants are asked to bring any photos of inspiration to the workshop.

Selma Art Guild Publicity secretary Jo Taylor said the participants will walk away with a painting and skills that can be used for future pieces.

“When you’re dealing with abstract, which is more of an idea or concept, you’ll walk away with skills on how to make those (paintings) better,” she said.

The class is geared toward individuals who are interested in learning to paint, or those who might want to become better artists, Taylor said.

Taylor had a few great things to say about Newsome, and her works.

“You’re going to learn a great deal from this young artist,” she said. “Her name is starting to become known across the state. She’s just excellent at what she does.”

Canvases might be purchased for those who might forget to bring their own. Paint, brushes and other materials will already be available at the workshop.

The Art Guild will also host another workshop called “Think Paint” on June 5-June 7 at 9 a.m. at the guild. Toska Courbron will host the workshop. A registration fee of $200 is required for the watercolor class.
