Chamber tournament rescheduled

The threat of rain has forced the postponement of the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce golf tournament set to take place Thursday at Valley Grande Golf Course.

The decision to postpone the tournament was made Tuesday morning after rain soaked the Selma area Monday evening. More rain came through Tuesday and storms are also in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, which would make getting the course ready for the tournament a difficult task.

“We felt like it needed to be postponed,” said Sheryl Smedley, executive director of the chamber of commerce. “They shared with us about the golf course. I’m not a golfer but I know you have to prepare the greens and the way the weather is it would not allow them to get the greens ready for the tournament on Thursday.”

The tournament has been moved to Thursday, April 23, which was the original pre-scheduled rain date organizers had planned.

Smedley said 23 of the 26 tournament spots have been filled. The cost is $80 per player or $240 per team. Hole sponsorships are also available.

“It’s a relaxed casual atmosphere to network business people and management teams,” Smedley said.
