A violent crimes task force organized by Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson continues to see success in ridding Selma of crime, after more than 10 arrests were made over the weekend.

“We are going to keep cracking down on the criminals in Selma until they all pack up and get out of town,” Jackson said.

The Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force had help from multiple agencies in making the arrests.

“We’ve got many hands, many minds and one goal to stop this spree of violence,” said Task Force Commander Larry Colston.

Colston they had help from officers with the 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, Clark County Drug Task Force, Perry County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, Wilcox County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, Alabama Probation and Parole, Selma Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

Mario Foster, 27, and Jemerria Gunn, 28, were arrested and charged with first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation. Each one was given a $31,000 bond.

“We started the day out with them,” Colston said. “We were picking them up for probation and one of them had a gun and they were sitting in the car with a book bag of marijuana and money.”

Officers with the Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and other law enforcement agencies confiscated marijuana, handguns, cash, phones and a significant amount of synthetic marijuana, which is a rising problem Colston said.

“[Synthetic marijuana] is getting big in this area,” Colston said. “A lot of people try it, and they don’t think it can be picked up on a drug test, but people are lying to them. It is not true. It is [also] very dangerous. It will kill you, make you hallucinate and mess your mind up.”

Antonio Jackson, 23, Jarrious Accoff, 30, and Tony Jackson, 41, were arrested and charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

Latoya Wise, 24, and Cardarius Hayes, 19, were both charged with possession of a pistol without a permit. Hayes was also charged with giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.

According to Colston, for the most part, the arrests were made without any incidents.

The other arrests were Tyrone Cole, 26, for failure to appear on driving under the influence; Jermaine Jackson, 37, for felon in possession of a firearm; Shanette Tyus, 24, for failure to appear on endangering the welfare of a child; and Bryan Brown, 25, for operating a vehicle without insurance.

Colston said some of the people arrested could be facing other charges as well.

“We’re going to continue to fight,” Colston said. “If anyone has any information about people doing drugs or committing crimes, give us a call.”
