Senators baseball splits doubleheader with Hooper

Morgan Academy rebounded from an opening loss to win the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday against Hooper Academy.

The Senators (13-7) lost game one 9-3, with errors in the field proving costly and inconsistent hitting plaguing them at the plate.

Game two was much cleaner, as the Senators limited their mistakes in a 3-1 victory.

“[In game one], we gave up a couple of walks and a had a few errors here and there that just killed us,” said Morgan baseball coach Jeremy Carter. “Errors kill you every time … second game they played a little better. They got after it a little bit and wanted it a little more.”

Woodham Kemmer and Jackson Henderson scored the game winning runs in the sixth in game two for the Senators.

Not a lot went right in the first game.

Hooper jumped out to a 9-0 advantage after the top of the fourth before the Senators started chipping away at the lead.

A single by Joshua Criswell scored Slade Singleton to cut the lead to 9-1. Kemmer singled to scored Criswell and a RBI  double by Henderson made it 9-3.

The Senators couldn’t pull any closer in the final three innings and Hooper held on for a 9-3 win.
