Three days after a 19-year-old Selma man was robbed at gunpoint and had his car stolen, the Selma Police Department has recovered the vehicle and possibly uncovered a trail of recent burglaries.

According to the Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the SPD, the robbery happened Sunday, March 22 around 8:21 p.m. at an apartment complex on the 1900 block of Marie Foster Street.

The victim was listening to music in his car in the parking lot of the apartment complex waiting on his friend to come out when the robbery happened, Muhannad said.

“He noticed three black males creeping up to the rear of his vehicle. He didn’t think anything of it. He thought they were going to ask him about the car or the music,” Muhannad said. “When they approached the car all three of them pulled guns on him. One of the suspects fired a shot, and they pulled him from the vehicle.”

According to Muhannad, two of the men ran off with the victim’s phone, while the third man drove off with the victim’s 2007 black Chevy Malibu.

Muhannad said the vehicle was recovered Wednesday around 5 p.m. when officers spotted the vehicle at the intersection of Lapsley Street and J.L. Chestnut Boulevard.

“Officers spotted the vehicle fitting the description,” Muhannad said. “They performed a traffic stop and ran the plates to find out it was the vehicle that was stolen in the robbery.”

According to Muhannad. the driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, is the father of Jamarcus Brenson, 19, who is wanted for questioning in the case. The victim identified Brenson as an alleged suspect.

Muhannad said the police department is currently investigating the involvement of Brenson’s father to find out how he got possession of the car.

Muhannad said the SPD is still in possession of the car because they are hoping to find more evidence from recent burglaries.

“We found evidence in the vehicle that has led us to the burglary of a resident in our city, so we are looking for other evidence in the car that may lead us to other burglaries as well,” Muhannad said.

Anyone with information concerning the robbery is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (334) 874-2588 or 1-866-442-7463. Your phone call will be confidential.
