One year after signing him to a massive contract, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released defensive end Michael Johnson, according to an ESPN.com report.

Johnson, who graduated from Dallas County High School and is a Selma native, signed a five year, $43.8 million contract last offseason.

In an injury-plagued year, Johnson recorded just four sacks and had 20 tackles, which was his lowest amount since his rookie season in 2009.

Multiple reports have the Cincinnati Bengals, where Johnson played his first five NFL seasons, as interested in bringing him back.

Johnson has 30.5 sacks in his career, with 26.5 of those coming with the Bengals. In 2012, he had the fifth best sack total for a single season in Cincinnati history with 11.5.
