One of the nation’s top gospel artists is making a stop in Selma for a special concert at Selma High School.

Cece Winans, the top selling female gospel artist in history, will perform at Selma High School’s auditorium Saturday at 6 p.m. Juanda Maxwell from Brown Chapel AME church, who helped organize Winans’ appearance, said tickets are going fast. VIP tickets are already sold out, but several $25 general admission tickets are still available.

“She is happy and thankful to be a part of the celebration,” Maxwell said. “She will go down in history as being a part of historic Brown Chapel’s celebration of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and beyond.”

Maxwell said Winans’ appearance is through a partnership by Brown Chapel AME Church and the city of Selma.

“We’re just so excited that she’s chosen to come to Selma to entertain us,” Maxwell said.

On Sunday, BET and Centric will present a Salute to Selma concert featuring several well-known artists on the Selmont side of the bridge.

Artists confirmed to perform include Aloe Blacc, Angie Stone, Arrested Development, Bebe Winans, Bell Biv DeVoe, Blind Boys of Alabama, D-Nice, DeWayne Woods, Donnie McClurkin, Doug E. Fresh, Eddie Levert, Eric Benet, Estelle, Flavor Flav, India Aire, Keith Sweat, Kelly Price, Kirk Franklin, MC Lyte, Rick Ross, Tank, Tamar Braxton, Tramaine Hawkins, Tyrese, Vanilla Ice, Virtue and more.

There will be appearance by Harry Belafonte and Peter Yarrow (two original marchers), Bill Bellamy, Bill Withers, Cicely Tyson, Gary Owen, John Salley, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Tom Joyner and more.

The concert is free and will be from 5 to 8 p.m. A.J. Calloway will host the event and will air on Centric TV on March 15. It will also be live streamed on BET.com and CentricTV.com.
