Friday, Feb. 20 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. the YMCA of Selma and Dallas County will host a dance for girls, ages 2 through 12, and their father, grandfather or uncle in the gymnasium.

“It’s just such a great experience for little girls to learn how to dance and to be either with their grandfather or their father and get all dressed up and have that kind of fun,” said Ann Murray, the YMCA’s CEO.

This will be the first time that they have held a dance like this before, and Murray said she is looking forward to it.

“This is our first year,” Murray said. “I’m very very excited about it. We’re so excited to be doing this for the first time ever.”

Murray said there isn’t a particular theme for the dance, but the girls can expect a lot of pink decorations to go along with all of the activities.

“We’re going to have a limbo contest, a twist contest, dancing, food and fun,” Murray said. “Everyone’s excited, … [and] we already have 60 signed up.”

The admission fee is $15, or $20 if there are two daughters. All they have to do is call a reserve a place and they can pay at the door,” Murray said. “Anybody can come. We really want people to come.”

Murray said sponsors, like KFC and Pepsi, are helping cover the cost of the dance so the admission price can remain low.

With 60 people already signed up for the dance, Murray said she is hopeful for a great turn out and her staff is excited help out and put on a fantastic dance for everyone who attends.

“The reason that I think it’s a special event is because it’s maybe one of the first times that a little girl gets to dance, and it’s very special to be able to be with your father or with your uncle or with your grandfather,” Murray said.
