Fires gut two Selma homes, damages third

It was a busy weekend for the Selma Fire Department, as three house fires displaced families and caused major damage to multiple homes.

According to reports from the Selma Police Department, three residential fires were reported over the weekend between Friday and Sunday mornings.

The first fire happened on the 900 block of Lapsley Street just before 9 a.m. Friday morning. According to Selma Fire Chief Mike Stokes’ office, the early morning fire caused damage to the kitchen area.

The cause of the fire was undetermined by the fire department. The home was occupied when the fire started, but no one suffered any injuries.

The second fire was reported on the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Street. According to incident reports, the fire was called in around 8 a.m.

According to the fire department, the home was a complete loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire marshal’s office investigates a fire when authorities suspect any suspicious or criminal activity.

The family that lived in the home on Martin Luther King Street has been displaced due to the severity of the fire. While the home was a complete loss, no one was injured in the fire.

A second family was also displaced the next day due to a third residential fire.

The fire was reported early Sunday morning around 3 a.m. on the 900 block of Mangum Avenue. The home was a complete loss, and the cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.

According to the Selma Fire Department, no one was injured in the Mangum Avenue fire.
