Members of Leadership Selma-Dallas County had a class reunion of a different kind Thursday.

Members from all 21 leadership classes gathered Thursday to celebrate their common interest of community leadership.

The annual event gave past classes, as well as the present group, time to catch up with one another and learn about what is happening in Selma.

“We just rededicate ourselves back to what leadership is truly about,” said Glenn King Jr., president of the board of directors of Leadership. “This program is so vital to our community because it produces leaders from within the city to go out and make positive social changes to society.”

King said he is excited every year for the reunion because he is able to see everyone and get updates on what they are doing.

“You look at them, and they’re in different positions. They’re doing different things, and a lot of knowledge that they’ve learned from the program, you can tell that they have applied it,” King said. “We produce leaders to make a difference in Selma and Dallas County.”

After lunch, the classes heard from Selma Mayor George Evans, Battle of Selma director James Hammonds, ArtsRevive director Martha Lockett, Kyle Abraham with Abraham.In.Motion and Mary Helmon and Tripp Muldrow with Main Street Alabama.

They then took questions from the classes, who asked about a wide variety of subjects.
