The Selma Community Concert Association is continuing its most successful season yet Tuesday, Jan. 20 with an Auburn Singers performance.

The Auburn University group will conduct a 1 p.m. show exclusively for 900 students and again at 7 p.m. for the general public at the J.A. Pickard Auditorium at 400 Washington Street.

The association has sold about 400 tickets for this year’s series, which is the most ever. The upcoming show is expected to sell an additional 100 tickets because of the group’s popularity.

“Everybody loves them,” association president Doris Holland said. “They are so outstanding that people are so impressed with their talent.”

Under the direction of Dale Farmer, the group has joined the concert series at least five times before.

Holland said it’s the singers’ talent that has made them worth inviting back again and again.

Morgan Academy graduate Andrew Swindell is a part of the group, according to Holland.

“That’s going to encourage tickets in Selma because people will want to see him,” she said.

Holland said having the Auburn Singers perform for local students exposes kids to music they may not have otherwise heard.

“Children these days have certain kinds of music that they like, and they don’t realize how much music that is out there,” Holland said.

“We do that to show that there’s more to music.”

Tickets are $25 each for adults and can be purchased at the door.
