25-year-old Selma man shot and killed on Broad Street

A 25-year-old Selma man was shot and killed late Friday night.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Broad Street around 11:45 p.m. in reference to a gunshot victim, according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, head of Selma’s Criminal Investigation Division.

The victim, who District Attorney Michael Jackson identified as Frederick Harris, had already been taken to the hospital by private car when officers arrived.

“The victim was seen walking south in the 300 block of Broad Street by passersby who stopped when they saw him collapse,” Muhannad said. “The first citizen to stop called E911. [The] second citizen that stopped knew the victim and placed him in their vehicle and transported him to the ER.”

Harris was unconscious when he arrived at the Vaughn Regional Medical Center’s emergency room with a gunshot would to his left upper torso. The emergency room staff worked to stabilize the victim, but he was succumbed to his wound and pronounced deceased, Muhannad said.

There are no leads in the investigation, according to Muhannad.

The call will be confidential, and anyone who shares information that leads to an arrest could receive a cash reward up to $1,000.
