To continue their tradition of giving, Kimberly Williams and Cassie Richardson, owners of Kustom Kreations Floral & Giftshop, gave out toys to children in front of their shop Saturday.

The event marked the second time they have done a toy drive, and both said they want to make it an annual tradition.

“We get excited about this every year,” Williams said.

“Last year we were able to give out over 150 toys, and this year we have doubled that. The line was so long.”

The gift shop starts contacting sponsors at the beginning of November, asking for donations so they can give back to the children of the community. The sponsors had 30 days to collect toys and turn them in.

“These people are who make this possible — my sponsors — and I thank God for them,” Williams said. “I couldn’t have done it without them.”

With the sponsors help, Kustom Kreations Floral & Giftshop was able to give toys to what Williams estimated was around 300 children.

Helping Williams and Richardson make the day go smoothly were Lt. Colonel Dr. Ray Williams, Uleter Nix and Corey Bowie, who handed out gifts and made sure the kids left with a smile on their faces.

“I just get excited about it,” Williams said. “I just get excited about giving.”

The children were excited as well. The gifts were wrapped and each had a number that corresponded with a number from a bag in which the children drew from.

Whatever number they drew, they received that matching gift.

“That’s my favorite [part], just to be able to share the love, and be able to give back,” Williams said. “Just seeing those smiles. Just to know that I have made someone’s day. Just to see the kids smile, it just warms my heart.”

While they were waiting, the kids had the opportunity to speak with Santa and tell him their last minute wishes for this Christmas.

“When I looked at the line, I was just so excited,” Williams said. “They thought I was a kid. I was just so excited.”

Williams said her favorite part was seeing the kids’ reaction to getting a new toy for Christmas.

“Just to see the kids come out. That was so exciting,” she said. “Just to be able to give them a toy and say Merry Christmas to them and they’re smiling and they’re excited about Christmas.”

Williams said the season is about giving back to others and the community, and she enjoys being able to help out those that have supported her in her business.

“[It’s great] just getting the kids excited and giving back to the community for doing business with us, and I’m just excited about it,” Williams said. With the event being successful, Williams said they definitely plan to do a toy drive every year.
