Shooting injures Selma woman

Selma detectives are investigating a Friday night shooting that left a woman injured.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Water Avenue around 7 p.m. after receiving calls about a gunshot victim. When they arrived, officers found a 21-year-old victim shot in the hip by what officers believe may have been an assault rifle, according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, head of the Selma’s Criminal Investigation Division.

“According to other residents, several gunshots were fired into the residence from the rear of the house,” Muhannad said. “No other persons were injured.”

The victim was transported to the Vaughan Regional Medical Center by a Care Ambulance and later airlifted to a Montgomery hospital.

Crime technicians recovered 20 7.62 rounds from the scene.

“So far in the investigation, detectives have found that a silver or gray Dodge Avenger with tinted windows was scene speeding from the area,” Muhannad said. “There are no suspects and the case is still under investigation.”

Detectives have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.
