Selma business robbed at gunpoint

The Selma Police Department is working to identify and find the man who robbed a Selma business Thursday night.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress on the 2100 block of West Highland Avenue on Thursday at 8:40 p.m., according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, head of Selma’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Employees told investigators that a black man wearing a camouflaged mask and coat entered the business as it was preparing to close for the night.

The man was armed with a handgun and demanded money from a cashier, according to Muhannad.

Police declined to release the name of the business on Highland Avenue.

The suspect was given money from the cashier and fled the scene.

Selma Police Department’s K9 officer was brought in to search the surrounding area.

Investigators recovered $53 from outside the business, and the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The case is still under investigation as of Friday, Muhannad said.
