Shooting suspect Nathan Richard Parker appeared in court Monday for a bond hearing after allegedly shooting a Selma barber Thursday, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson.

District Judge Bob Armstrong issued a $250,000 bond to the 49-year-old Marion Junction man, who was charged with attempted murder. He is currently in the Dallas County Jail.

While Jackson and his legal team were hoping for a $500,000 bond, they were content with the bond Armstrong issued.

“Attempted murder is a very serious charge,” Jackson said. “You can’t just be shooting at some business establishment.”

Selma Police responded to the Teamwork Barbershop on 910 block of J.L. Chestnut Boulevard on Thursday afternoon in response to a gunshot victim in his 40s, according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, head of the Selma’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Parker and the Selma barber were reportedly friends before the incident and the altercation may have involved disrepect of family members, Muhannad said.

The victim was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s emergency room in critical condition and later was airlifted to a Montgomery hospital.

He is still in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, Jackson said.

Selma officials said patrons were inside the barbershop at the time of the shooting, but no other injures were reported.

Parker’s preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 13 at 9 a.m. Jackson said. Attempted Murder is a Class A felony.

Parker may face 10 years to life in prison and $60,000 dollars in fines if convicted.
