Valley Grande was pleased to report Monday that it has received more applicants for the recreation and sports coordinator job.

The part-time position requires an individual to organize, promote and supervise all recreation and sports services at Valley Grande’s Sports Complex.

The opening has attracted about seven applicants since it was posted on the city’s website in mid-October, with six of them submitted within the two weeks prior to Monday’s council meeting.

“After the first couple of weeks when we only had a couple resumes, I was kind of disappointed,” Mayor Wayne Labbe said. “After it came out in The Selma Times-Journal, we got several rows of resumes in.”

Labbe shared resumes of the two individuals he is strongly considering for the job to the council.

The city plans to run background checks on those who are being considered.

“That’s something that’s very critical,” Labbe said. “In fact, all of our volunteer coaches will have background checks this year.”

Labbe said in the previous meeting that he would like the new coordinator to be someone who does well at planning, communicating and working with kids.

“I’ll be mulling over the applications and making a decision,” Labbe said.
