ORRVILLE —The Keith Bears kept their playoff hopes alive with a 26-14 region win over the Sunshine Tigers Friday night.

The Bears (2-6) were winless two weeks ago. Now, they are possibly one win away from extending the county’s longest playoff streak to seven consecutive years. Going into Friday’s game, Keith head coach Harry Crum had prepared his team for the worst, but he was hoping for the best.

“Regardless, I told them we are going to play every game like it’s a playoff game,” Crum said. “Tonight, it [felt] like a playoff atmosphere.”

It’s still not likely for the Bears to make the playoffs, but hope still remains. Keith will need a win over Loachapoka next week and a lot of help from region rivals in order for it to happen, but there is hope.

Presidet Hasberry scored on a 50-yard run with seven minutes left to play in the fourth quarter to put Keith up 26-8. Hasberry took advantage of an opportunity Friday, as Domonique Jones was healing up with a hamstring injury.

“I kind of rested my horse, which is Domonique Jones. When he gets going, he’s something to see,” Crum said. “He wasn’t a 100 percent tonight. He had a little problem with a hamstring, but I’ll take 80 percent of him. He’s better than a lot of people.”

Jones did his part as well though.

He scored the game’s first touchdown to put the Bears on top 8-0 and then scored on a 25-yard run with 6:09 left in the third quarter to extend Keith’s lead to 20-8.

“When we scored on the first drive, it looked like we were just going to handle them and it was going to be a blowout,” Crum said. “They kind of got confidence and then we lost ours, but our defense held and we were able to get rejuvenated.
