Mud run benefits charity

Jeffrey Nichols knew he wanted to organize a fundraising event, but he wanted it to be something a little different.

That’s how the 5K Mud Run, which will be held Oct. 18 at Big Daddy’s Offroad in Valley Grande, was created. The run will have racers make their way through, around and over different obstacles. It’s all to benefit Wannabe Rescued, a non-profit organization that helps find homes for dogs in animal shelters.

“It’s going to have 15 plus obstacles from climbing walls to going through mud, going over beams, jumping over fire and all kinds of other obstacles we are looking at doing,” Nichols said.

Despite it sounding tough, Nichols stressed that the course is set up where anyone can maneuver through it and complete the run.

“I think it is going to be a challenge, especially for the ones that work out all the time, but also for the average person,” Nichols said. “Anybody can do it. It can be little kids all the way to however old you are. Anyone can do it.”

Wannabe Rescued vice president Lorraine Alexander said her organization is excited about the fundraiser.

“We are humbled,” Alexander said. “They offered to do this, and it means the world to us because it means we can help more animals.”

Alexander said Wannabe Rescued has saved 253 dogs this year and one cat.  She said the organization’s biggest expense is vet bills and the funds raised would mean many more animals would get help.

The cost to take part in the run is $20 for those 18-and-under and $35 for those 19-and-over.
