Arra Eugenia Martin

Arra Eugenia Martin of Mobile,  AL, also known as Arragene, went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2014 at the age of 91. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on November 21, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Judson R. Martin and Mrs. Frances Susan Rutland Martin; sisters, Frances Martin and Mary Martin Baker (Robert); brother, Dr. Judson Rutland Martin (Mavis); niece, Patricia Martin Weldy (Phil).

Arragene is survived by her brother, John Swanson Martin (Linda); brother-in-law, Robert Baker, Sr; sister-in-law, Mavis Martin; nephews, Robert Baker, Jr. (Lynn), and Judson Martin, III; niece, Frances Eugenia Baker, Francis (Robert); great nephews, Reid Martin Frances, Robert Starley Francis and William Baker Francis; great niece, Mary Kate Francis and numerous cousins. She taught for over 40 years in the public schools of Alabama at North Perry, Tuscaloosa and Montgomery.  She attended Judson College, Auburn University, Livingston University (University of West Alabama) and graduated from the University of Montevallo. She also earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama. Arragene was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma society. She was very successful in her lifelong career; influencing and helping shape the lives of hundreds of students. They left her class not only with the knowledge of that particular subject matter but better people who were prepared to assure their place in society as better citizens. Arra loved the Lord. She was active in HIS work. She taught Sunday School classes for many years, sang in the choir, active in Women on Missions. A circle at her church was named to honor her and her sister. She loved foreign missions. She was a leader in raising funds for them through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. She participated  in and helped lead a number of civic activities. Arragene loved her family; being a wonderful influence to them. Her family loved her, respected her, were inspired by her, and appreciated her. She will be greatly missed, but she leaves behind many cherished and happy memories with them. She had  many friends she loved and whom loved her. The family would like to thank all who have shown their love and support for her and the family. Funeral services will be held Sat., Sept. 20th at 2 p.m. at Siloam Baptist Church in Marion, Alabama with Revs. Michael Perry and John Nicholson officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. Burial  will follow in Marion Cemetery. The family will received friends at the church from 1-1:45. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church or charity of one’s choice.
