A dispute between two men has landed one in jail after he fired a weapon at the other man while he was sitting in another car late Sunday morning.

In a news release, Selma police investigator Lt. Curtis Muhannad said Trayvon Blake, 3202 Water Ave., was arrested shortly after police received a call that a man fired a weapon into an occupied vehicle in the 2200 block of Alabama Avenue.

Muhannad said police officers responded to the call at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, and they saw a silver Toyota Corolla speeding away from the scene of the shooting.

“The victim called police and told them that he had been in his car when a second car pulled up and the driver of that car fired upon him,” Muhannad said. ”Lukcily, the victim was not hit or injured during the incident.”

Muhannad said officers witnessed the driver of the Corolla throw a gun from the vehicle during their pursuit.

According to Muhannad, a passerby picked up the weapon before officers could collect it as evidence.

“At this time we believe it was a double-barreled shotgun, or a 12 gauge shotgun,” Muhannad said. “But if somebody picked it up, we need them to turn it in or notify the police as to where it could be found.”

Muhannad said if someone is found in possession of the weapon, they could face charges of hindering evidence.

After his vehicle was eventually stopped, Muhannad said officers found Blake was alone in the vehicle.

While being questioned by officers, Muhannd said Blake told them he shot into the other man’s vehicle because of a fight that occurred Friday evening at a local nightclub.

Blake is being held at the Dallas County Jail with a bond of $15,000.00 dollars, and is awaiting a bond hearing.
