District Judge Robert Armstrong handed down a $30,000 bond Thursday to Selma resident Loraine Hale Flennory for a charge of interference with custody.

Flennory is charged with kidnapping her biological daughter, Shakeda Sims, 10, following a family reunion that occurred on July 4.

Flennory fled to Florida with Sims in the days after the reunion, and filed a fraudulent child abuse claim against Sims’ father, who shares legal custody of Sims along with the child’s grandmother.

Flennory and Sims were taken into custody by the Panama City Police Department on July 10.

Sims was returned to her father and grandmother in Selma on the day she was found in Florida, while her mother awaited an extradition hearing.

After waiving extradition, Flennory was brought to Selma early Tuesday morning.

After Thursday’s bond hearing, District Attorney Michael Jackson said his department takes cases involving the custody of children seriously.

“Whenever a child’s safety is in question, I will always make sure we pursue charges,” Jackson said. “We are glad that the child was found safely. There are a lot of family issues that will be addressed in the coming months.”

Jackson said a preliminary hearing for the case has been scheduled for Aug. 21 in Judge Armstrong’s court.
