PLANTERSVILLE — Rubyn Gene Smith, 62, is very familiar with the Plantersville Post Office, he’s also familiar with the penalties associated with those who rob a United States Post Office.

Smith, the same person who robbed the Plantersville Post Office in 2006, is the lone suspect in Wednesday’s robbery of the post office.

“Mr. Smith is a native of Plantersville, but most recently is believed to have been living in Mobile,” Dallas County Sheriff’s Department’s Sgt. John Hatfield said Thursday. “At this point, we are not quite sure where he is, but the United States Postal Services has contacted the U.S. Marshals asking for their assistance in locating him.”

Hatfield said there is currently an arrest warrant for Smith, as well as a $200,000 bond, for first-degree robbery. Hatfield also said Smith is wanted on a federal probation violation tied to the 2006 robbery of the Plantersville Post Office.

Authorities report Smith allegedly entered the Plantersville Post Office before noon Wednesday and implied to the lone postal employee on duty he had a gun. He then ordered her to hand over money, which she did.
