Jeanette Thrash McDowell

Jeanette Thrash McDowell, age 82, resident of Selma, AL, passed away July 16, 2013 surrounded by her family.

Visitation will take place Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Church Street United Methodist Church in Selma, AL. Burial will be at New Live Oak Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. McDowell and her parents, Alfred and Josie Bell Wilcox Thrash.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Larry) Justice and sons, Rickey and Mike McDowell; sister, Dorothy Scofield; grandchildren, John Justice, Amy (Zeb) Ellison, Katie Justice and Trent (Hilary) McDowell and great-grandchildren, Clayton, Anna and Daniel Ellison and Mac McDowell.

Jeanette graduated from Auburn University and worked in several counties as an agent with the Auburn Cooperative Extension System. She helped her husband, Richard, farm for many years. They later opened Mac’s Fish Camp on the Alabama River. They made many lifelong friends during the twenty-four years they ran the restaurant. She loved people and dedicated her life to serving others. She was a long time member of Church Street United Methodist Church. She was very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, teaching Sunday School, Bible School, serving as Scout leader and many other activities.

Pallbearers will be David Bibb, Sloan Bibb, Johnny Ray McDowell, Buc Shaw, David Shaw, James McNeill, Keith Mizell and Zeb Ellison.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Church Street United Methodist Church or Cahaba Hospice.
