Dallas County High School’s Amy Persinger has been selected to play in the AHSAA North-South All-Star softball game on July 16.

Persinger, who plays centerfield, will play on the South squad.

“It is a great opportunity. I couldn’t have done it without my family, friends and coaches,” Persinger said. “I’m really excited about it. I think it is going to be really great.”

After having a strong season for Dallas County, the honor is certainly well- deserved. Persinger hit homeruns at a high rate during the Hornets’ season, and her hot bat has continued into travel ball games.

“During school ball, I hit seven homeruns over the fence, six in-field,” Persinger said. “In the last [travel ball] tournament two weeks ago, I hit three [homeruns] in two days.”

It looks like Persinger’s hard work is starting to pay off too. At least one college has already shown interest and playing in the All-Star game certainly can’t hurt from a recruiting standpoint.

Persinger is hoping to find time to squeeze in fall ball later this year to give more college coaches an opportunity to see her play.

“I play [during] the summer and school ball, but during the fall I have volleyball,” Persinger said. “If there is any way I can play fall ball this year and play volleyball, I will.”

She started playing softball nearly 10 years ago and fell in love with the game quickly. Persinger said she enjoys that softball can be “fun and competitive at the same time.”

Persinger was also named to the 4A All-State softball team.

The All-Star game is a part of the 17th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition. The game will be held at Lagoon Park in Montgomery on July 16 at 6 p.m.
